Java Express

November 4, 2006

I’m on a bit of a lunch kick right now so I’ll post about another great little spot I frequent.  Java Express is on the corner of Jasper Ave and 104th Street in downtown Edmonton.  Ultimately, as the name suggests, it is a coffee shop.  Interestingly, it offers so much more.

The spot hasn’t been found by the masses yet (knowing how many people read this, I’m sure that’s not going to change) so you rarely have to queue up with more than one or two other people.  Even if there was a queue of five or six, the wait would be worth it.

On top of their coffee, which I can’t comment on since I don’t drink the stuff, Java Express offers sandwiches, wraps and soup.  The sandwiches are great.  I’m a big fan of the Veggie Roma Fresco which at first looks a little small, but in the end is quite filling.  They also have some good wraps, but I don’t think that they are quite at the same level as the sandwiches.  I’m sure the soup isn’t homemade, but the portions are generous and on a cold winter day it’s great for eat in or take out.

On top of great food the prices are very reasonable (soup and sandwich specials for approximately $8) and, for us geeks, they have free wi-fi and very comfortable chairs.

This is definitely a good little lunch spot, but let’s keep that to ourselves so we don’t have to queue up okay?

Actually, their muffins are also delicious! Hubbs has brought home a muffin for me on occasion, and I always enjoy the ones from Java Express. Unfortunately, theirs aren’t as healthy and low-cal/low-fat as the ones from Second Cup (which are actually from Bee-Bell Bakery), but if it’s a yummy muffin you’re searching for, check out Java Express!

[...] April 10th, 2007 I noticed today that Java Express on Jasper Avenue has reopened.  Hopefully it will be as well run and have as great of sandwiches as it did before. [...]
