My partner and I have a major soft spot for Tapas, prior to my vacation to Edmonton from Scotland in August of this year I had been searching online for a tapas bar near my partners place on the South side, one of the only hits than came back in the whole of Edmonton was for Tzin... Upon arriving, we struggled to find the restaurant/bar due its discreet exterior; however upon arriving we were greeted by a very cheery and friendly host (owner) who turned out to be Irish/Scottish. The place was tiny, a small but superbly well stocked bar, an open kitchen, and enough seating for possibly 25 people. The host's manner was friendly and comforting not 'to in your face', he suggested good wines and complimenting food, thankfully he was not pushy! I have a major love for full bodied red wines so swayed from the suggestion from the host. My partner and I ordered a sharing platter, scallops and chorizo, Albertan beef and sautéed potatoes as well as king prawns in a chilli cream. Each was full of flavour, more delicious with every mouthful. I have to admit not being a huge fan of Scallops; I absolutely adored the scallop/chorizo combo (my partner's choice)! We stayed for a couple of hours, had a couple of glasses of wine, my partner swayed for the local beers and we ate and chatted, enjoy the whole experience. We paid around $120 for the two of us, very reasonable, we thought for the food and the service. We would highly recommend Tzin for anyone visiting or local to Edmonton! A delight and a well hidden treasure!
Thank you :)

I love this place. Although it's small - it's very quaint and unique. Hats off to the owners for having a place like it! It's a place meant for a few hours not a whole evening.. as a designer- the atmosphere is fabulous and a great place for the downtown crowd. If it was in a different location- say south edmonton common - i honesstly dont think it would last! The location is perfect- very cafe type- and european. I love this place. And will continue to go back. And have already taken 8 other people with me and they all reccomended it to people they knew! If you've ever been INSIDE (and not just looking into the window from the street) of this place to see the kitchen- you would see a clean place to eat with fabulous tappas and a great selection of wine to suit all needs. The owner is very friendly and attentive. LOVE IT..

I can assure you, the spring rolls are not from "freezer pack". The owner makes them herself from scratch weekly. She just freezes them for use for the week.
The place recently renovated. Lime green paint job has been replaced by beige/brown. Ordering desk island has been moved to the back right in front of the kitchen window leaving more room for dining. Tacky paper signs has been replaced by more professional prints. Everything has been moved and re-laid out having learned from previous mistakes.
Their sushi and hot foods is second to none. Their credentials came from Kobe Japanese Bistro - run and managed by real Japanese people. So, they're not Tokyo Express wannabe hacks.
Prices are high, but you are paying for quality. And if you can't tell the difference between the Tokyo Express quality and Sankyu quality, too bad for you.

I have to say that Sankyu has the best sushi in edmonton speaking from an individual that is a frequent traveller...the freshness of the sushi is on par with the japanese restuarant I have had in many of the well known japanese restaurant metropolitan area I have travelled in the world and I was very sad to hear that Sankyu at their westend location has closed because its always been a favourite of mine and I've always looked forward to coming home from my trips to have a nice dinner at that location.

Their prices are a little expensive at lunch for the downtown location but you also have to consider that you are not getting Tokyo express quality sushi. The only other downfall of the downtown location is that ultra rude and bitchy cashier but I love that place so much i go there alot of the times for my lunches even to if I have to put up with her at times.

The vinegar totally destroyed the dish - up until that point it tasted excellent - perhaps there is a specific type to use? I used white malt vinegar _ I may as well have had a piss in the curry - it made the dish almost inedible.

I've been to DLux 2x. Once they were so rushed ( lunch ) I had to leave early. Came back another day by co-incedence and dcided on their surf and truf.

Food:
Underwhelming. Tasteless beef, overcooked shrimp. Looked nice on the plate and once you toppled the fancy tower of greens, slivered veggies and what not, there was barely any food on the plate and it was not well put together ( they were probably truly garnihes and not meant to eat but I'm a simple girl and if it's edible and on a plate, I'm gullible enough to think you're supposed to eat it )

Staff:
Pretty, plastic, smile too much. Faux urban with no depth

Atmosphere:
Almost entirely white ( the night I went ), regular designer jeans, designer drink type crowd but somehow inauthentic

Decor:
Bleh, the "dining room" was full so I ate in the lounge. Didn't like the layout, the lounge was too dark and the seats too low. Would have preferred it better lit ( at least at the tables ) with better furniture
